Specialising in Coaching for Anxiety
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is something that everyone will experience at some time in their life. From the nerves you feel when you have an important job interview, to the feeling of butterflies you experience when going on a first date. It is a normal reaction to uncertainty or an exciting/challenging situation. But what if you feel like this over what is seemingly, the smallest of situations? How much does anxiety affect people when they experience it in situations that most people can cope with? The answer varies from person to person, however there are both physical and mental symptoms of anxiety, as well as the social impact on each individual.
Symptoms of anxiety include:
-
Feeling uneasy or on edge
-
Overthinking situations
-
Sleep problems
-
Irritability
-
Sweating
-
Shaking or trembling
-
Feeling tired
-
Fast or racing heart rate
-
Stomach aches/ feeling sick
-
Restlessness
-
Headaches/ dizziness
It may not always be obvious when an individual who is struggling with anxiety is having such symptoms. Many people will try to hide their anxiety as they struggle with social situations. They may do this by cancelling plans or removing themselves from social situations for long periods of time, for example taking long bathroom breaks. How can Coaching Help with Anxiety?
Talking about and acknowledging your anxiety may seem scary but it is a big step towards being able to understand and manage your anxiety symptoms. Anxiety can feel like a constant uphill battle but it does not have to feel that way. Coaching allows you to vocalise your feelings of anxiety in safe and non-judgemental space. Anxiety does not have to be a negative thing and can be channelled in more positive ways by challenging negative thinking through coaching.
When coaching individuals for anxiety, I aim to make you feel as comfortable and at ease as possible. We will discuss what impact your anxiety has on your life, what changes you wish to see and what actions you are ready to take to achieve these changes. There are many ways to manage and cope with anxiety by focusing on your feelings and thought processes when in triggering situations. If you have a specific diagnosis of an anxiety disorder, we can discuss this in more detail if you feel comfortable doing so.
